Radiation oncology clinical division

The Department of Radiation Oncology at VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center has grown into a major treatment and research center, with more than 30 faculty members among its academic staff. It is an integral component of Massey, one of only 70 National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer centers in the country.

The radiation oncology team

Our patients receive the most advanced radiotherapy services available in Central Virginia. Services are provided at several treatment facilities in the Richmond area: Massey's flagship location in downtown Richmond, the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center in southside Richmond, Massey at Hanover Medical Park in Northside metropolitan Richmond, Massey at Stony Point in Southside metropolitan Richmond, and the Cancer Center at Henrico Doctors Hospital. We also provide the radiation oncology care at VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill and at Spotsylvania Regional Cancer Center in Fredericksburg.

Our patients are evaluated in multidisciplinary clinics specializing in the management of breast, neurologic, thoracic, gastrointestinal, genitourinary and gynecological cancers, as well as cancers of the soft tissue, skin and the head and neck. Childhood cancers are managed jointly with oncologists from the Department of Pediatrics at VCU Medical Center. The collaboration between subspecialists in radiation, surgical and medical oncology, as well as radiology and pathology, in the multispecialty clinical centers allows the experts to formulate the best treatment plan for each patient.

As a major site for clinical oncology research, a wide variety of prospective investigational protocols are available to patients through national research groups. In addition, protocols developed by VCU Medical Center physicians are available to test novel approaches to cancer management.
