Why choose VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center for your skull base tumor care

The Head and Neck Cancers Team provides the only comprehensive diagnostic and treatment for head and neck cancers in the Richmond area. It is staffed by specialists who are national leaders in cancer care and who also conduct research that leads to improved treatments for head and neck cancers. Many of these treatments are only available at major academic medical centers like the VCU Medical Center. You will find it convenient to be evaluated by a group of closely collaborating specialists in one place at one time rather than having to go to a number of specialists at different locations. Massey’s experts partner with the Department of Otolaryngology’s Head and Neck Surgery team at VCU Medical Center.

Since its founding in 1942, the Head and Neck Cancers Team has a long history of providing the best clinical care to patients with diseases of the ear, nose, throat, and related structures of the head and neck. In addition to excellence in general otolaryngology, we are proud of our thriving programs in otology/neurotology, audiology, skull base surgery, allergy and sinonasal disorders, laryngology/care of the professional voice, pediatric otolaryngology, facial cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, and surgical oncology of the head and neck.

Comprehensive

The head and neck cancer program at Massey offers an integrative approach with a full range of treatment options that support patients' strength and well-being while improving quality of life through treatment, recovery and survivorship. We also offer support services that range from helping minimize pain, symptoms and side effects to helping cope with the cognitive, emotional and psychological effects of cancer.

Collaborative

Cancer care generally requires multiple forms of therapy and various specialized doctors. At Massey, our specialists collaborate in interdisciplinary teams to coordinate all aspects and stages of patient care and conveniently provide that care in one location. Massey pioneered the multidisciplinary approach to cancer care in our region. This approach combines the expertise of many doctors and ensures that you will receive the ideal combination and sequence of treatment.

Compassionate

Through respectful, attentive and compassionate care, Massey’s care team builds healing relationships with patients that help reduce suffering from cancer. We recognize that each patient’s medical, social, emotional and personal needs are unique, which is why patients have access to resources such as social workers, psychologists, legal and financial assistance, support groups, educational workshops and more.

Customized

Recognizing that each patient is unique and each type of cancer is different, Massey provides treatment strategies and care plans tailored and individualized to the patient. Patients also have direct access to a nurse navigator, who will provide guidance as they move through the health care system and treatment process.
