Cancer-focused Undergraduate Research Experience
Massey's Cancer-focused Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) Program, sponsored by the American Cancer Society (ACS), aims to enhance underrepresented minority students' interest and knowledge of cancer research. Interns will receive mentorship and will build professional relationships with physicians, scientists and other health and research professionals. The program will take place on site at the VCU Medical Center campus in downtown Richmond, Virginia.
Program details
- 10-week mentored cancer research experience (May 27-August 1, 2025)
- Final scientific poster presentation of work at Massey's Summer Research Symposium
- ~30/hours per week during the summer
- Attend cancer research seminars, workshops, symposiums and network with current Massey trainees
- Students will receive a $5,000 stipend for participating in the summer program
- Continued participation in mentoring activities, conferences, scientific meetings, research-focused workshops, seminars, volunteering and community outreach through the following fall and spring semesters
Eligibility and application requirements
- Must be a rising sophomore, junior or senior underrepresented minority undergraduate student at a Virginia college/university
- Must have a 3.0 or higher GPA at the time of application submission and be in good academic standing
- Must submit a resume
- Must be able to commit to program expectations and ~30 hours/week for 10 weeks
- Two (2) letters of recommendation, with at least one from a current or past instructor within their field of study
