The Women and Wellness educational conference, presented by Primis, invites guests to take a deeper dive with Massey leaders on topics like healthy living and nutrition, self-care and wellness, cancer and relationships and thriving with cancer. Hands-on opportunities, such as therapeutic painting and makeup and beauty tips are also planned.

Registration for the Women and Wellness conference is free and is open to all. In-person and select virtual sessions are available. Sponsorship opportunities available

 

OPENING SESSION

SURVIVORSHIP: SURVIVING & THRIVING WITH CANCER

Autumn Lanoye, PhD, LCP, Assistant Professor, VCU School of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology, Oncology, and Palliative Care

What does life after cancer look like? Dr. Autumn Lanoye will lead a discussion with tips and tools for healthy living and models for lifestyle interventions to improve health and quality of life in cancer survivors.

ART, TRAUMA INFORMED CARE, AND WELL BEING

Cindy Paullin & Lauren Paullin Art for the Journey | Can art be a non-pharmacological therapy? Learn about the work of Richmond non-profit, Art for the Journey, and how art promotes well-being in children, adults, and seniors. Using a trauma informed care approach, Art for the Journey volunteers deliver art experiences to understand individuals and experience joy through community engagement.

COMMUNITY ADVOCACY & AWARENESS

Maria Thomson, Ph.D., Director for community engagement in research & Katelyn Schifano, M.S., C.H.E.S., Coordinator for community engagement in research | What does community led research really look like? Join Dr. Thompson and Katelyn Schifano as they explain what the community-to-bench model of research looks like and how Massey is leading the way through their Cancer Champions Program

Samantha Haswell, MS, RD, Massey Oncology Dietitian | Massey dietitian recipe sharing and discussion on healthy eating for cancer prevention and survivorship. Learn how to decipher best nutrition practices and identify nutrition facts vs fiction.

OVERCOMING BARRIORS TO CARE

Tiffani Collins, MPH, Program Administrator, Cancer Support Care Navigation Services | Where and how to begin when you have questions about prevention and care can be overwhelming. Tiffani Collins will walk through how to navigate getting the help you need - from screening through the continuum of care services.


CANCER CAREGIVING & RELATIONSHIPS

Freda Wilkins, MSW, M. Div, Clinical Social Worker | A forum discussion designed for caregivers of cancer patients and survivors led by specialized social worker, Fred Wilkins to provide a space for questions and learning.

HEART AND CANCER CARE

Wendy Bottinor, MD, MSCI, Cardio-oncologist | Heart health is at the center of much of our health needs. Join Dr. Bottinor as she explains what we can do before, during, and after a diagnosis to keep our hearts going strong.

Join the founder of Endorphasm Gym as she walks you through movements and exercises that you can do on your own to promote and empower patients through fitness!


ART FOR THE JOURNEY

Cindy Paullin, Executive Director - Art for The Journey and staff | In our closing session, join us with host Cindy Paullin of Art for the Journey as they lead us through an interactive painting session. Here, you will work in groups to design or decorate a chair to represent you and your experiences, hoping to keep more chairs filled with our loved one Chairs will be displayed throughout various VCU Massey offices.
