Massey named among Top Virginia Employers for Interns
Apr 4, 2025
VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center was recognized as one of 215 recipients of the 2025 Top Virginia Employers for Interns Awards, the Virginia Talent + Opportunity Partnership (V-TOP) recently announced. The annual awards celebrate Virginia employers who provide high-quality internships to students.
"We are incredibly proud to be among the esteemed honorees. Across more than ten pathway programs, our interns are immersed in our mission to improve the lives of cancer patients through innovative research and compassionate care,” said Caroline Blair, coordinator for the Office of Cancer Research Training and Education at VCU Massey.
“Our interns gain firsthand experience working alongside leaders in the field, contributing to our collective effort to eliminate cancer and enhance the quality of life for those affected by it."
Massey annually hosts more than 50 summer interns across various learner levels, including a 57-person class who will be entering in summer 2025.
“These businesses are models for other employers. They are using innovative methods to help students apply their learning, develop practical work-based skills, and strengthen Virginia’s efforts to prepare the future workforce,” said Scott Fleming, director of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
More than 84% of the recipients provide paid internships, predominately in-person during the summer. More than half of the awardees offer non-traditional internships, like those for students with disabilities, career switchers, veterans or active-duty military members transitioning to the workforce. Most notably, most employers provided full-time employment offers to many of their student interns.
V-TOP is administered by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia in partnership with the Virginia Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the Virginia Business Higher Education Council. It is funded by the General Assembly’s Commonwealth Innovative Internship Fund and Program.
