Massey physicians win Best Bedside Manner Awards

VCU Massey Cancer Center physicians were recognized by the community as having the best bedside manner in the 2014 Annual Best Bedside Manner Awards presented by Our Health Richmond magazine. The public voted for medical providers in the Richmond area based on kindness, empathy and attentiveness.
Gita Massey, M.D., pediatric oncologist at Massey and Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) as well as associate professor at VCU, was awarded second place in the Oncology category. Laurie Cuttino, M.D., a radiation oncologist at Massey and associate professor at VCU, was awarded third place in the Radiation Oncology category. This is the second consecutive year Cuttino has placed for best bedside manner. David A. Lanning, M.D., Ph.D., surgeon-in-chief at CHoR, pediatric surgical oncologist at Massey and associate professor at VCU, tied for third place in the General Surgery category.
Honorable mentions were awarded to the following physicians who provide care for Massey’s patients:
- Harry Bear, M.D., Ph.D., Oncology
- Douglas Arthur, M.D., Radiation Oncology
- John Ward, M.D., Neurosurgery
Commercials aired during the summer months to encourage the public to place their votes online. Nearly 14,000 votes were submitted for medical providers in 58 categories.
