This week, Susan Schreiner, MHA, BSRT, joins VCU Massey Cancer Center as senior director of the VCU Massey Cancer Service Line. In this new position, Schreiner will be working closely with Paula Fracasso, M.D., Ph.D., FACP, Massey’s deputy director and senior vice president of the cancer service line at VCU Health, building clinical cancer care strategy and operations across Massey’s inpatient and ambulatory locations.

Schreiner, who holds a masters in health care administration from Clarkson College, brings with her more than 30 years of experience in health care operations, business development and project management. She comes to Richmond from Omaha, Nebraska, where she has served as cancer program director at Bryan Health and oncology services director at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center at the University of Nebraska.

“Sue’s extensive experience developing cancer programs in both academic and community cancer centers will make her a tremendous asset to the cancer service line,” said Fracasso. “With her addition to our leadership team, we will continue to drive even better experiences and outcomes for our patients.”

Schreiner will work with leadership at Massey – recently designated a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute – VCU Health and VCU School of Medicine to oversee the successful functioning of the service line, including operational and fiscal management, and ensure alignment across teams and locations to support clinicians and staff to deliver high-quality cancer care to Massey’s growing and diverse patient population.

“We’re glad to welcome Sue to play this crucial role in an administrative model that will allow us to harness all of the resources available across our institution to more effectively provide high-quality patient care,” said Robert A. Winn, M.D., Massey’s director and Lipman Chair in Oncology.

Schreiner is an avid sports fan and supports the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Colorado Avalanche. She and her husband are looking forward to exploring Virginia’s nature and culture.

“I’m driven to provide the best possible care for patients that we can, and excited to meet and collaborate with the team to bring a stronger cancer program together that will make that possible,” said Schreiner.
